Sri Lanka's Ayurvedic tradition features a rich variety of medicinal plants used for centuries. Sri Lanka has a rich tradition of Ayurvedic medicine, drawing on its indigenous knowledge and a variety of medicinal plants. Here are some notable Ayurvedic medicinal plants found in Sri Lanka:
Elaeocarpus serratus; Weralu (වෙරළු)
Elaeocarpus serratus is a tropical flowering plant in the family Elaeocarpaceae. It is a medium to large tree, with white flowers. It has a disjunctive distribution, with the species occurring in Sri Lanka and southern India, and in Assam, Bangladesh and other parts in the north of the Indian subcontinent. The fruit is commonly eaten, and people also use the plant for ornamental, religious and folk-medicinal purposes.
Although a small fruit it is very good and usually bears the fruit a Elaeocarpus serratus plant twice a year but some plants are found fruits throughout the year. From ancient times have been giving the Elaeocarpus serratus fruit for mothers of the Sri Lanka. Due to its vitamin C, mineral salts as well as fiber properties that can be eaten by anyone, big or small.
Properties of Elaeocarpus serratus
- Elaeocarpus serratus is Very good for hair. When it is dry, wash your head with the water which are boiled with leaves . It can also be used to remove dryness from the hair and to keep it soft and shiny.
- Also Elaeocarpus serratus is very good for cholesterol.
- Very good for hot flashes, urinary tract infections (urinary tract infections) in women.
- This drink is able to reduce the inflammation (inflammation) as well as inflammation in people with gout.
- As a fruit rich in vitamin C, it is more conducive to dental diseases.
