Old Dutch Hospital
The Old Dutch Hospital on Delft Island, also known as Neduntheevu, is a significant historical landmark in Sri Lanka. Delft Island is located in the Jaffna District of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. The Old Dutch Hospital is a remnant of the Dutch colonial period in Sri Lanka, which lasted from 1640 to 1796.
The Dutch constructed the hospital during their occupation of the island. It was built in the traditional Dutch colonial architectural style, characterized by its thick walls, large windows, and red-tiled roofs. The hospital was likely used to provide medical care to the Dutch settlers and possibly to local residents as well.
Today, the Old Dutch Hospital stands as one of the few remaining Dutch colonial buildings on Delft Island. It serves as a reminder of Sri Lanka's colonial past and is of historical significance to the region. The island itself is known for its unique landscape, with wild horses roaming freely and intriguing limestone formations dotting its shores, adding to its allure as a tourist destination.
